WHAT IS THE VIDEOEYE?
The VideoEye is a low vision appliance which helps people with macular degeneration by greatly magnifying reading material and objects. Technically, it is known as a 'CCTV', which stands for closed-circuit-television.

It has a viewing head mounted on an extendable arm that reaches almost 4 feet from where it is mounted. When you place reading material or objects under it, it magnifies them and they appear on the monitor.

Our various models provide magnification starting at 25X power, increasing to 100X, depending on the size of monitor upon which the image is being displayed. For example, if you put the newspaper under it, the small print is enlarged 2 1/2 inches high at 25X power It was designed primarily to help people with reading, but the extendable arm, self-focusing feature, and color display also allow it to be used to look at pictures, objects, hand-work, for writing and medical self-examination. A mirror attachment even lets you see yourself to help with grooming, makeup, shaving, and health care.

WHAT IS THE WARRANTY?

HOW DO YOU USE IT?
To use it, you switch it on. A green power light indicates that it is working. You also switch the monitor on. The VideoEye uses a viewing head mounted on an extendable arm. When you place reading material or objects under it, you see a magnified image on the screen. The extendable arm reaches almost 4 feet from where it is mounted so you just position it over anything you want to see. See products to see all of the features our models offer.

HOW MUCH WOULD A VIDEOEYE HELP ME SEE?
It depends on how well you see now. The VideoEye helps people see better because it enlarges reading material, pictures and objects - far more than an optical magnifying glass. If print is large enough, even some people who are legally blind can read. Our higher end models offer 100X magnification with a 27-inch monitor. The benefit you would experience from a VideoEye depends on the condition of your own eyesight. Visual impairment affects people differently. A VideoEye would benefit you if you are able to use a magnifying glass to read.
Back

CAN I READ A NEWSPAPER WITH IT?
Yes.The VideoEye was designed primarily for reading. The arm will move easily over any portion of the paper without having to fold it multiple times. Due to the extendable arm the viewable area is greatly increased as compared to other CCTV magnification systems.
Back

CAN I READ A BOOK WITH IT?
Yes. The wide columns used in books often require that you slide the book across the line as you read. It can magnify the small print in most books from two to three inches high. The self-focusing system helps with books because the focus continually remains sharp as you turn pages and move the book while you are reading.
Back

HOW DOES THE MIRROR ATTACHMENT WORK?
The mirror attachment fastens onto the viewing head with Velcro so you can see yourself to help with grooming, makeup, shaving, and health care. It magnifies much stronger than a parabolic mirror and you can position it so you can see the side or back of your head.

WHAT ARE PRIMARY ADVANTAGES OF A VIDEOEYE OVER OTHER SYSTEMS?
The VideoEye offers:Self-focusing viewing head adds convenience and simplifies operation Color display gives authentic rendering of pictures and photographs Giant screen gives a field of view almost two feet wide - wide enough to see a whole column of newsprint with characters one inch high.

Extendable arm mount lets you look at pictures, objects, hand-work, and use it for writing and medical self-examination; it can be pulled over your lap to help view things in your hands The mirror attachment lets you see yourself to help with grooming, makeup, shaving, and health care Simple operation - simply switch it on Low cost - with all these features, you still save money compared to other CCTV systems.
Back

DOES IT HELP PEOPLE WATCH TV?
No, it does not help make TV easier to watch. You use it with reading material and objects which you put under the viewing head to magnify.
Back

IS IT PORTABLE?
It can be moved, but it is not portable. The monitor weighs about 75 pounds. The arm is clamped to the back of a desk or table and the screen rests on the surface.
Back

HOW BIG IS IT?
The extendable arm is about 21 inches high when fully upright and is 45 inches long when fully extended. It reaches up to 32 inches high from the work surface. For monitor dimensions refer to monitor options.
Back

HOW MUCH DOES IT WEIGH?
The VideoEye viewing head is on an extendable arm and weighs 11 pounds.
Back

IS IT EASY TO INSTALL?

Yes. It comes with a large-print manual that guides you step-by-step through the setup. The arm just clamps to the back of a desk or table and there are two cables to plug in. The hardest part of installation is unpacking and moving the monitor. This is not difficult, but the monitors we provide can weigh anywhere from 20 pounds to 106 pounds. They are shipped in a large box and should only be moved by two able-bodied adults.
Back

HOW SHOULD IT BE SET UP?
The arm is fastened to the back of a desk or table with a clamp or may be screwed on. The screen rests on the work surface close to the arm.

It should be used on a sturdy table or desk. It must have a ledge so that the base may be clamped on. The work surface needs to be solid enough to support the weight of the monitor which can weigh as much as 106 pounds, depending on model. A solid table will also minimize shaking that can occur on the screen image. The table or desk should be strong enough that it would support the weight of an adult sitting on it.

It should be protected from direct sunlight through a window since sunlight would damage the viewing head if it directly strikes the lens. The minimum size work surface that would be satisfactory for a VideoEye system is about 36 inches wide and 20 inches deep.

WHAT KIND OF LIGHTING DO YOU NEED?
A VideoEye will not perform well unless it is used in a room that is well lighted with indirect light. Halogen lights reflecting indirectly off a wall or ceiling are ideal. Overhead fluorescent light is good. Incandescent lighting is also fine when it is directed on a wall or light ceiling, or when used with light-diffusing fixtures. Chandelier-type fixtures are not ideal because exposed incandescent light bulbs can create multiple shadows which interfere somewhat with the image. A desk lamp can be helpful, but only if directed against a wall rather than toward the subject because it would also create shadows.
